The wood sandpiper (Tringa glareola) is a small wader. This Eurasian species is the smallest of the shanks, which are mid-sized long-legged waders of the family Scolopacidae.

Population : The overall population trend is stable, although some populations have unknown trends.

Habitat: Peatlands, open swampy areas in boreal forest, especially scrubland between tundra and coniferous forest, wet heathlands with or without scattered conifers, and marshlands with deciduous bushes.

Diet: takes small, especially aquatic, insects.
