Key information

The swan goose (Anser cygnoides) is a large goose with a natural breeding range in inland Mongolia, northernmost China, and southeastern Russia. It is migratory and winters mainly in central and eastern China.

Length : 81–94 cm

Wingspan: 160–185 cm

Weight : 2.8–3.5 kg

Population : Substantial declines have been observed in the population of this species in parts of its breeding range in eastern Russia and Mongolia.

Habitat: It inhabits steppe to taiga and mountain valleys near freshwater and grazing on plants.

Diet: Almost exclusively vegetarian diet, partly consisting of sedges.
