Key information

The ruddy turnstone (Arenaria interpres) is a small wading bird with white head with black streaks on the crown and a black pattern on the face, one of two species of turnstone in the genus Arenaria.

Length : 21–26 cm

Wingspan: 50-57 cm

Weight : 84-190 g

Population : 300,000-500,000 individuals

Habitat: Stony coastal plains, marshy slopes and flats in lowlands

Diet: varied diet including carrion, eggs and plant material but it feeds mainly on invertebrate.
