Key information

The greylag goose (Anser anser) is a species of large goose in the waterfowl family Anatidae and the type species of the genus Anser.

Length : 76–89 cm

Wingspan: 147–180 cm

Weight : nominate male 2600–4560 g, female 2070–3960 g

Population : The global population is estimated to number c.1,000,000-1,100,000 individuals and the overall population trend is increasing.

Habitat: frequent salt marshes, estuaries, freshwater marshes, steppes, flooded fields, bogs and pasture near lakes, rivers and streams. 

Diet: feed on oats, wheat, barley, buckwheat, lentils, peas and root crop.
