The grey heron (Ardea cinerea) is a long-legged predatory wading bird of the heron family, Ardeidae, native throughout temperate Europe and Asia and also parts of Africa.

Population : 500,000-2,500,000 individuals

Habitat: most common in the lowlands, also occurs in mountain tarns, lakes, reservoirs, large and small rivers, marshes, ponds, ditches, flooded areas, coastal lagoons, estuaries, and the sea shore.

Diet: feed on fish, amphibians, small mammals, and insects.
